As a Preservative, once applied, the wood will remain Prevented from any further attacks, by any wood pests, for the life of the wood. The wood it is applied to, will remain in the state it was, at the time of application....sans infection.
As a Curative, WOOD SHELL will cure any wood it is applied to, from the infection that is present in the wood/plywood. However, infection can be from mild to extremely severe. Mild to severe infections can be cured completely. In the case of extremely severe infections, the cure will largely depend upon the severity of the infection. In certain cases the severity can be beyond the point of no return and in such cases, it would be wiser to discard the entire portion of the wood/plywood, rather than trying out the cure.
